MORNING KEYNOTE – MARC ARMITAGE
Marc Armitage is a consultant, researcher and writer in play, playing and playwork.
He has been a professional Playworker for looooooooong time and has been freelance since 1989.
He regularly travels the world speaking to groups of professionals from a broad spectrum of work sectors in the children and young peoples workforce including play workers, early educators, primary and secondary school teachers, out-or-c=school people, parks and playground designers, politicians, policy makers and many others.
He also spends a lot of time talking with children. With. That’s the key word.
AFTERNOON KEYNOTE – Dr Christina Guarrella
Dr Cristina Guarrella is a Melbourne Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Education at The University of Melbourne.
Her research explores teacher practice at the intersection of science, technology, engineering and early years education. Her doctoral research investigated teacher practice in early childhood science, with a focus on assessment practices, playful learning and interactions. This led to the development of a model of Assessment for Playful Learning to support teachers to connect assessment of children’s science process skills and the use of playful pedagogies to extend learning.
Aiming to contribute to the quality of assessment practice in Early Childhood Education, Cristina’s postdoctoral research applies a bridging approach to support teachers to embed learning progressions that articulate children’s knowledge and skills in science and engineering. Cristina has co-authored a range of teaching resources including the NT Preschool Science Games and publishes in the area of early childhood science education.

WORKSHOP 2: Scaffolding Children’s Play Skills – Jo Gaissl
Jo Gaissl has a passion to become a “PEBBLE” in early childhood educational settings to Teach Inspire Motivate and Empower educators and parents.
Over the last 40 years she has taught in preschool and day care settings as a full-time teacher, worked in centres solely as a music facilitator, taught at a ballet scholarship and creative dance studio and comes from a musical family.
Gifted in 2010 with a NEITA ASG Inspirational Teaching Award, Jo offers a wide range of services to the early childhood sector and patrons of young children.
